Get Your Kicks on Route 66!!
The long awaited opening of the Carolina by-pass, known as Route 66, has taken place, shortening transfer times to the Paradisus Puerto Rico, Westin Rio Mar and El Conquistador by about 15 minutes. This super highway snakes through lush unspoiled rolling green hills before rejoining the main highway at the Belz Mall, only a few minutes from the Paradisus Resort.
The opening of Route 66 makes travel time to the popular northeast activity region that much quicker as well, which is good news for San Juan based groups interested in visiting the rainforest, or going kayaking, biking, sailing or horseback riding.
Got an RFP for Puerto Rico?
If you’ve a group scheduled for Puerto Rico and you’ve not yet selected a DMC, take a moment to review the Client Comment section of our web site (www.destinationpuertorico.com); it’s filled with genuine unso-licited feedback from clients that we’ve handled over this past year and bears articulate testimony to the degree in which we invest ourselves in our clients’ programs in order to ensure the smoothest possible op-eration. With almost 50 years serving incentive programs on the island; with our involvement at both the board and committee levels in the tourism community on the island, with the only Destination Management Certified Professionals on the island (plus the only DMC with a CMP in the executive team), with multiple tour desks; and most importantly, with our only interest being in what’s best for you, the client; why settle for less?
Puerto Rico Institutes Municipal and State Sales Tax
The legislature of Puerto Rico has approved a 1 to 1.5 municipal tax (varies from municipality to municipal-ity) effective August 1 and a 5.5 % state tax to go into effect on November 1. As of this writing it is still un-clear whether or not DMC services will be affected by these two new taxes. We are seeking a legal opinion and will advise all readers as soon as we are up to speed on this new tax.
Third Generation President of the Puerto Rico Skal Club is Elected
A Skal Club first - in early April of 2006 Joanne Ferguson was named President of the Puerto Rico Skal Club. What makes this unique was that her grandfather, Charles Ferguson, was President in 1962 and her father, Paul Ferguson, was President in 1976. Skal is an international organization for leaders in the tourism industry from their respective countries; its goal is to foster friendship, goodwill and understanding through sharing with tourism colleagues around the world. Every dinner meeting commences with the Skal toast: "Happi-ness, Good Health, Friendship, Long Life - SKAL!!"
